Licenses, ratings & certifications

AeroTech Test trains the full path — Private, Instrument, Commercial, and Multi-Engine ratings, the CFI/CFII/MEI instructor ladder, and Utah-specific mountain & specialty courses. Every program is one-on-one, flown across our four-aircraft fleet on a flexible Part 61 schedule. Prerequisites and hours are handled case-by-case.

    Private Pilot License

The Private Pilot License is the foundation of everything in aviation, and it is where most AeroTech students start. You will build your flying skills, your aeronautical knowledge, and — most importantly — the judgment that keeps a pilot safe.

No previous experience is needed. Most students begin with a simple Third Class Medical Certificate and a Discovery Flight, then train at their own pace on a flexible Part 61 schedule.

How often you fly is the biggest lever on both time and cost — consistent lessons finish faster and cost less than stop-and-start schedules. We will map an honest plan around your goals.

  2. An aerial view of the snow-dusted Wasatch Front and golden autumn aspens above the Salt Lake Valley
    02 / 06 All-weather precision

    Instrument Rating (IFR)

The Instrument Rating is where good pilots become precise pilots. Training gives you the ability to fly confidently by reference to instruments alone, and sharpens the discipline that defines a professional cockpit.

It is the natural next step after your private certificate, and a prerequisite for most professional flying. A private certificate is required to begin.

Prerequisites and required hours are handled one-on-one — talk to us and we will map your path.

  3. The view from the cockpit of a training aircraft on final approach, instrument panel in the foreground
    03 / 06 Fly for a career

    Commercial License (CPL)

Commercial training is about refinement and professionalism. Every maneuver is flown to tighter tolerances, and every flight builds the habits expected of a pilot who flies for a living.

The CPL is your gateway to being paid to fly — and, amid a historic pilot shortage, the door to a genuine career. Our instructors have flown the line and know what that path really takes.

A private certificate is required. Prerequisites and hours are handled one-on-one — talk to us and we will map your path.

  4. A twin-engine Piper aircraft parked on the ramp beside a hangar
    04 / 06 A second engine

    Multi-Engine Rating

The Multi-Engine Rating adds a second engine — and a new level of systems knowledge and emergency discipline. It is a standard rung on the professional ladder and a rewarding challenge for any pilot.

You will master engine-out procedures, complex systems, and the precise energy management that twins demand, flying our own Piper Seneca II.

A private certificate is required. Talk to us about scheduling and your path.

  5. A Cessna 172 on the ramp at golden hour, sun flaring behind the propeller
    05 / 06 Get paid to fly

Flight Instructor (CFI · CFII · MEI)

Earning your CFI, CFII, and MEI is how many career pilots build the hours the airlines require — by getting paid to teach. It also makes you a sharper pilot: nothing tightens your own flying like having to explain it.

We train the full instructor ladder: Certified Flight Instructor, Certified Flight Instructor–Instrument, and Multi-Engine Instructor. A commercial license is required to begin the CFI.

Talk to us about scheduling your instructor training — this could be you at the front of the airplane.

  6. A traveler waving as an airplane takes off into a golden Utah sunset
    06 / 06 Fly Utah with confidence

    Mountain & Specialty Flying

The Salt Lake Valley is ringed by mountains and topped by Class Bravo airspace — flying here well takes specific skill. Our Mountain Flying Proficiency and Bravo Airspace Proficiency courses build exactly that (a private certificate is required for both).

We also offer spin training and biennial flight reviews to keep every pilot current, confident, and safe.

Talk to us about adding a specialty course or scheduling your flight review.

From first flight to a professional career — we train the whole path.

How it works

Training built around you

Our flexible Part 61 program adapts to your schedule and pace. Flight instruction is $60/hour and Discovery Flights start at $65; how often you fly is the biggest factor in your total cost — consistent lessons finish faster and cost less.

Questions

Training questions, answered

Do I need any previous experience to start?
No. Almost anyone can learn to fly, and most students begin with no aviation background at all. A Discovery Flight is the best first step.
Do I need a medical certificate?
To begin training toward a private certificate you will need a simple Third Class Medical Certificate from an FAA-designated medical examiner. We can point you to local examiners.
What aircraft will I train in?
AeroTech operates a Cessna 152 and Cessna 172, a complex Piper Arrow, and a Piper Seneca II twin. Training across high-wing and low-wing designs — and stepping up to complex and multi-engine aircraft — makes you a more well-rounded pilot.
Are you a Part 61 or Part 141 school?
AeroTech Test runs a flexible Part 61 program. That flexibility lets us tailor one-on-one training to your schedule and pace, which for most students means less time and lower total cost than a rigid program.
What ratings and certifications do you offer?
Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, and Multi-Engine ratings, plus the full instructor ladder (CFI, CFII, MEI). We also offer mountain flying, Class Bravo airspace, and spin-training courses, and biennial flight reviews.
Can flight training be a career?
Absolutely. Amid a historic pilot shortage, there has rarely been a better time to pursue a flying career. Our instructors have flown professionally, and we train the full path from Private through Commercial, Multi-Engine, and instructor certifications.
How do I get started?
The easiest first step is to book a Discovery Flight or call us at (555) 010-0000. We will talk through your goals and map out the path from here.
